Conservative Arkansas would like to invite you to TWO January events to kick off the new year: Our regular monthly meeting on January 4 and our special annual meeting on January 18. Annual membership renewals and applications will also be accepted for 2014 at both of these meetings.
What: Regular Monthly Meeting
When: Saturday, January 4, 10 a.m – noon
Where: Friends of RPL Community Room
Rogers Public Library
711 S Dixieland Rd
Rogers, AR 72758
Guest speakers for this meeting will be State Auditor candidate Andrea Lea, Attorney General candidate David Sterling, and 3rd District Congressional candidate Thomas Brewer.
Conservative Arkansas will also be holding a special annual meeting on Saturday, January 18. This year we decided to make it a bit more fun so we will be conducting our annual meeting as a chili supper social.
What: Conservative Arkansas Annual Meeting & Chili Supper (Potluck)
When: Saturday, January 18, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Where: Spring Creek Fellowship Church
2120 W. Emma Ave
Springdale, AR 72762
The agenda for the Annual Meeting will include, but is not limited to:
- Review of endorsement process for 2014 primary elections. Since party affiliation has become a less reliable means of distinguishing which candidates have conservative principles, one of the most important functions of Conservative Arkansas is to vet & endorse candidates in the primary. We will review our timetable and planned procedures for the 2014 primary.
- Announcement of the “Conservative of the Year” Award. Please send any nominations to firstname.lastname@example.org by January 1, 2014. In your nomination, please include detailed reasons as to why you believe the nominee has done an outstanding job of advancing or defending conservative principles in Arkansas in 2013. Nominations can be for anyone, elected official or not. The winner will be selected by the board and announced at the meeting.
- Board member elections. The position of Executive Director and Treasurer will be elected. Both Patsy Wootton and Donna Brashears, our current Executive Director and Treasurer, respectively, are seeking reelection. Nominations will also be taken at the meeting. Please note that while all are welcome at the meeting, only 2013 or 2014 paid members may actually vote in this election so if you are a member, you will need to sign in upon entry to verify your membership and receive a ballot.
After the (short) meeting, we will have a chili supper to kick off the election season. The meal will be potluck so we ask that everyone bring a chili-appropriate side dish (chips, crackers, cheese, cornbread, etc) or dessert. Conservative Arkansas will provide the chili and drinks. During the meal, we will briefly hear from all candidates so that our members can begin to put names with faces. This is an open invitation to any city, county, state, or federal candidates to introduce themselves to the group. Please let any candidates know of this open invitation – especially those in local races as it is typically more difficult to connect with these candidates.
IMPORTANT NOTE: ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS & APPLICATIONS ARE NOW DUE FOR 2014
Membership donations are $25 (Regular) or $100+ (Sustaining) per person per calendar year. Donations may be made via cash or check at any meeting or via mail at our address below. We also accept credit cards on our membership sign-up page. Annual membership renewals & applications will be especially important this year because membership is required to vote in the endorsements for primary elections coming up in April 2014. All membership applications must be approved by the board so please sign up as early as possible. Board review for membership is required in our bylaws for the purpose of preventing non-conservatives from packing the endorsement election vote. Minimum donation for membership is $25 annually. However, please consider supporting Conservative Arkansas’ work with an additional donation (up to $5,000 max per year).
