Fayetteville, Arkansas, April 17, 2011
During the 2010 congressional campaign of our executive director, Bernie Skoch, many people requested their photo be taken with him. In one instance, an individual then unknown to us did so and was later found to be a white supremacist by the name of Billy Roper.
Mr. Roper later applied for Conservative Arkansas’ endorsement in his gubernatorial campaign. In our vetting process, his despicable racist views were discovered. We not only denied him our endorsement, but we asked that a photo of him and Bernie Skoch be removed from his website. It was not.
Today, a group posted on the Internet that photo with comments linking Bernie Skoch to Billy Roper’s racist group.
Let us be clear:
1. Conservative Arkansas and Bernie Skoch deplore racism.
2. Neither Conservative Arkansas, the Skoch 2010 congressional campaign, nor Bernie Skoch has ever endorsed or supported Billy Roper, his views, or any political campaign of his.
3. Conservative Arkansas and Bernie Skoch refused to endorse Billy Roper for governor because of his racist views, and we will continue to do so.
